THE BIGGER, BETTER BURGER
by Jose Martinez
I’ve said it before and I’m saying it again, every meal can’t be a white tablecloth, four-star affair. Sometimes we just need fast and simple—but still delicious. Never compromise when it comes to flavor. So, when I stumbled upon Roger’s Burgers, I was stoked to find a damn tasty, bigger, better burger.
Yes, Roger’s Burgers is home of the Instagram favorite ‘4x4 Wild & Wreckless Burger’ where four burger pattys team up with tomato, red onion, mustard, sauce, pickles, bacon, chili, cheese, and topped with pastrami to give birth to one badass burger. And at just under $12 it’s a great deal for a multi-meal burger guaranteed to get you likes on social media. I couldn’t finish the mighty monster meal and let me tell you, it tasted just at good the next day at lunch. This would almost be a food challenge gimmick if it weren’t so delicious.
But it’s not all about the burgers at Roger’s Burgers as I was blown away by the Loaded Breakfast Burrito. A steal at $5.99, this b’fast beast comes with ham, egg, sausage, bacon, potato, cheddar cheese, onion, bell pepper, and chorizo. Damn! It’s an all-day meal nicely wrapped in a flour tortilla. It’s decadent and delicious and I want another one right now.
Roger’s Burgers came about when founder Alex Nehorayan teamed up with BBQ grill master Roger Guydon, who is very passionate about his smoked meats, and together they crafted a burger joint that delivers crowd-pleasing eats where only 100% Pure Angus Beef (never frozen) is grilled on custom-built smokers that give way to rich taste and flavors.
If you want something on the simpler side, the All-American Burger with Thousand Island sauce, red onion, pickles, lettuce and tomato definitely delivers. It’s simple and solid and under $5. You’ll even have space in your belly for the outrageous Chili Cheese Fries, which is an over-the-top dynamite dish.
There’s even a vegan Impossible Burger option as well as a Garden Burger choice for half the price. And yes, there are salad options too but I didn’t try them. Don’t forget the milk shakes! It’s not a boffo burger experience without a tasty shake on the side. You might as well go ‘big’ when getting your Roger’s Burgers experience on.
With locations in San Bernardino and Burbank, there are plans to expand to Whittier, Long Beach, Riverside, and San Diego. I like the simple setting here. There’s no pretention, it’s just all about good, hearty (sometimes oversized) eats. It’s comfort food served as a burrito or burger that gets it right.
Roger’s Burgers is located at 591 N. ‘D’ Street at West 6th Street in San Bernardino, and 2320 W. Victory Blvd in Burbank.
